TAMARACK WILDLIFE

On February 21, 2014 Dr. Ramey and three staff members went out to Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center to examine, vaccinate and draw blood from the 8 birds that they use in their education program. It was quite an experience seeing these birds of prey up close! We took some pictures to share with you.

This majestic American Bald Eagle was found by the Pennsylvania Game Commission lying by a river. It needed to be examined and radiographed to make sure that it had not been shot. Dr. Ramey discovered that the eagle was not shot but had sustained an injury to the left side. Treatment included antibiotics and rest. Can you imagine giving a pill to an eagle?

This Great Horned Owl is used for education at Tamarack Rehabilitation Center. Her handlers have noticed that she may have developed cataracts so they brought her in to get her checked out. When the handler had her look towards the camera she made sweet little noises- unexpected sounds from an owl!
